Quite unexpectedly while working on one of our reviews the head of the power cable to Caroline’s Powerbook G4 snapped clean off.
As the familiar scent of ozone filled the room the sparking cable was yanked out of the wall and we surveyed the damage. The cable had broken fairly cleanly in half (sadly not in a place where we could splice in new cable and repair it) and the connector to the laptop was charred and slightly melted from the short.
As luck would have it, the battery to Caroline’s laptop only lasts about 5 minutes when fully charged – it’s never been the same since our time in China and Korea – so Caroline hastily saved everything she could before it died and what was formerly our main workhorse is now a nice, heavy paperweight.
We’ll have it up and running again soon, but in the meantime there may be some delays as things get shuffled around our computers.
