Stan the Donut Man on Urbanspoon

Donut places can be hard to find if you aren’t in a city, and even then in Cincinnati it seems like there aren’t very many specialty donut shops. It gets even harder when you attempt to narrow your choices down to ‘local only’ and eliminate chains. Some places, like Graeter’s, sell donuts – but the selection is severely limited and it’s not really their thing. The northern suburbs of Cincinnati have essentially no choices for the sugary breakfast treat – or at least that’s what I thought until we stumbled upon Stan, the Donut Man.

Stan’s doesn’t have a big sign on the street, so even though the shop is clearly visible in the strip mall it’s located in it is easily overlooked. I’ll give you a hint – It’s on Cincinnati-Dayton road between I-75 and Tylersville road, so if you pass either you’ve missed it.

The actual dining/ordering area of Stan the Donut Man’s shop is fairly restricted, so we opted to get a take-away box of a dozen. Unfortunately we were in at around 10:00 a.m. on a Saturday so the selection had been whittled down from hungry sugary-pastry-lovers before us. Despite that we were still able to get several different donuts, from the classic glazed to devil’s food cake to apple and pineapple fritters.

Despite having next to no competition, Stan the Donut Man still delivers when it comes to taste. Each donut tasted fresh, had a crisp exterior yet a soft and moist interior and each had the perfect amount of sweetness. The apple and pineapple fritters were packed with fruit and delightfully tangy, and we highly recommend everyone tries them. My usual measure of the dependability and quality of a donut shop is the classic glazed – and Stan’s glazed donut was perfect.

Twelve is far too few to try everything. Be sure to get there early for the best selection and freshness.

From the fritters to the cinnamon, all the donuts tasted fresh and delicious.

Stan the Donut Man has excellent donuts for a sweet price, despite having next to no competitors. So if you find yourself near West Chester with a donut craving, we highly recommend paying a visit to Stan’s right off I-75.

Verdict: Get There Early

Stan the Donut Man, located on Cincinnati Dayton Road just off I-75, is special in that it is the only donut shop in the area. There are no weird or unique donuts or pastries here – just a good selection of delicious, fresh donuts. To sweeten the deal, Stan’s is cheap too – so there’s no excuse not to try them.
